As a practicing orthopedic surgeon and artificial intelligence expert, Dr. David Burns has pioneered new approaches to motion recognition using advanced neural networks and wearable inertial sensors for physiotherapy applications. Realizing the commercial potential of his patented approach, he founded Halterix.
David's two co-founders Thomas Mak, a sensor data expert, and Devon Stopps, a cloud and systems architecture expert, are former classmates David met while attending the engineering undergraduate program at Queen's University in 2003.
In May 2020, the founding team appointed veteran Internet business leader Russ Patterson as Chief Executive Officer. Halterix is Russ's 6th startup, and 2nd as CEO. Russ brings an extensive background in product management, business management and team building, and spent 15 years of his career in senior roles at eBay Inc.
